Just finished and while not exactly high brow it was OK afternoon entertainment. I’ve seen many worse things and some of the comments about it really are a bit overblown. I mean at least it wasn’t a musical and it was better than most of Discovery and shorter than Picard S2.

@Setok

I imagine the commenters you're referencing would agree that it's okay as "just TV" or "just a movie." But Star Trek earned its fans and laurels for being more than that, so I completely sympathize with those who evaluate Section 31 by that standard.

It's the rights holders and studios who apply the label "Star Trek" to something, with the understanding they're invoking the good will and loyalty of those fans.

@Starfia I kind of view it as a pilot or something rather than maybe a full blown movie. So point taken. However on Star Trek standing for something, I’m a bit less convinced. I mean there is some bloody awful stuff in the series. I think fans can sometimes set exceedingly high standards.

It wasn’t a Starship series. No boldly going places. But viewed as a separate action focused thing in the same universe … well, not brilliant. But an OK way to spend an evening.

Still no objection or quarrel with that, perhaps from anyone. No one's telling anyone they shouldn't like anything. (I doubt I'd personally like it even without the label.)

That sounds like soil for a proper discussion. ^ ^
