The one piece of real info that was slipped through at the investor call seems to be confirmation that the final version will be shorter than 19 feet (5.79 metres). How much shorter? Wasn’t mentioned, but probably not much. That will be about 9–10cm shorter than original specs and clearly shorter than an . While not exactly a short vehicle (even an van is 50cm shorter), it’s still somewhat of a positive development from a European perspective.

Another thing that was also confirmed was that the bed will still be over 6 feet (1.83 metres), and the longest of any full crew cab pickup of that length. It is likely, however, to be shorter than the 6.5’ (1.98 metres) that was thrown around after the original launch event.

Interestingly that bed is not long enough to transport tatamis (e.g. for ). Unlike the @VWGroup@mastodon.social which managed fine once back seats were folded.

The @VWGroup@mastodon.social is actually a wonderfully versatile for its size. Charming too. Just a pity they priced it at a very high level and that it lacks 4WD. Otherwise it would be a grab. Ground clearance is also a bit limited, but I could maybe live with that. The price, though, made me very sad.

@Setok @VWGroup I agree on the pricing and I’m very curious how it will do once it’s available in the US. Even higher price point for the long wheel base but it sticks out so much. It will either be insanely popular or be considered too weird to be popular.

@tylopoda @VWGroup@mastodon.social logically the longer one would be more expensive. But I just wonder if will play the US market differently and actually have a lower price there (also remember that European prices include taxes). Though really I’d like to see them uniformly dropping 20K off (at least the passenger version). That would make sense for me and what you are getting, and more fitting as a ‘folks wagon’. But can they produce them at that level?

@Setok @VWGroup I’d love to see that but I suspect they intend to benefit from higher margins on what they’ll market as a futuristic tech forward vehicle rather than lean into the retro-ness or the mass marketability of it.

@tylopoda @VWGroup@mastodon.social I think weird can work if the price and offering fits. Just look at the interest surrounding the . If the price in the US is higher than that or the , I think it won’t fly. Equally if either of those enter the European market at a price that heavily undercuts the ID.Buzz, things will be very tough for that product.

@Setok @VWGroup I think you’re right that there is potentially a good amount of overlap in the potential customer bases for those. Larger families probably wouldn’t consider the trucks but the majority will be singles, couples, or those with at most one or two kids and the trucks work just as well for them.

@tylopoda @VWGroup@mastodon.social well, both trucks take 5 passengers, same as the European ID.Buzz, so in terms of family capacity they're equal. The ID.Buzz is less unwieldy (it's actually a really nice size). Size will definitely negatively impact interested of the American trucks here in Europe. Still, if you end up paying 10–20K less and get 4WD...

@Setok @VWGroup oh of course. I was just thinking of the US version.

@tylopoda @VWGroup@mastodon.social yeah. I think that’s why is doing the extended model@for the US. But of differentiation.
