You remember her from "Empty Nest," "The Critic," and "Biloxi Blues." These days, Park Overall is an environmental activist in her hometown in Tennessee.

We'll talk to her today as we broadcast from the foothills of the Smokies. We'll also visit the Bulls Gap Railroad Museum and remember the late comedian Archie Campbell.

"You met another, and pfft! You were gone." I've gone to Eastern Tennessee this weekend and I'm broadcasting from the foothills of the Smokies.

I'll have a report from Bulls Gap, Tenn., and I'll talk to actress Park Overall about her community activism on behalf of clean air and water in Appalachia.

Join me from 12 to 3 p.m. (Eastern) Saturday (March 8) on WRCT 88.3FM and Tube City Online Radio.

Nice to see this in a Tennessee publication.

"I am not going to tell you how to vote based on my interpretation of a religious text because that is how we got here in the first place. Instead, I am going to insist that you protect the rights of transgender and non-binary people for a much simpler reason: they are Tennesseans."

A Tennessee mainstream news piece went out yesterday covering Patriot Front and including detailed aerial photographs of their compound in the east of the state.

While we're glad that this information is reaching a wide audience, and overall Phil Williams has done fantastic work covering the far right, we'd also like to note that our group is the one that originally exposed Ian Michael Elliott in 2021 and also first discovered and published the location and ownership of the compound in 2024.

We're not mentioning our original pieces because we're in it for the credit, but because it's better for everyone when news sources cite original antifascist grassroots research. The more exposure our pieces get, the more likely it is we get tips on white supremacist activity.

The Department of #Chemistry at Middle #Tennessee State #University was honored to host the 2025 President of the American Chemical Society and Nashville native, Dr. Dorothy Phillips. She gave an inspiring presentation on her “Journey to Leadership in the ACS” to kick-off #WomensHistoryMonth at #MTSU. In the large in-person and Zoomed-in audience were faculty and students, members of the #Nashville Section of the #ACS, and members of her extended family.

The bill’s introduction follows WPLN and ProPublica reporting that found the state’s lax gun laws and enforcement allow firearms to remain in the hands of abusers, some of whom have gone on to shoot and harm or kill their victims.

🚨 Disability rights are under attack in 17 states! 🚨

There’s a lawsuit trying to get rid of Section 504, the law that protects disabled people in schools, workplaces, and public spaces. If they succeed, it means:

❌ Schools wouldn’t have to provide accommodations (no extra test time for ADHD, no wheelchair access, no diabetes care in class).
❌ Workplaces wouldn’t have to adjust for disabilities (no remote work, no flexible scheduling, no accessibility requirements).
❌ Public spaces could ignore accessibility needs (buildings, buses, and services wouldn’t have to be usable for disabled people).

📍 These 17 states are trying to gut 504 protections:
Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia.

If you live in one of these states, contact your state reps & governor! If this lawsuit succeeds, other states could follow, or it could reach the Supreme Court and hurt everyone.

The Nashville school shooter previously pulled a knife on another student. He returned to school after a two-day suspension.

“He had a whole knife in school, and he didn’t get expelled,” the victim said. “It just doesn’t sit right with me.”

How Many Students Have Been Expelled Under Tennessee’s School Threats Law? There’s No Clear Answer.

Tennessee gives public agencies wide latitude to refuse to release data. That made it challenging for our reporters to figure out just how many students were affected.

Today was just what I needed, went hiking in Tennessee to see if we could find some ice and were not disappointed. This was the first day since last Saturday above freezing in this area and the waterfalls we visited were spectacular. #Hiking #Tennessee

Well, guess I might as well do my #introduction post here.

I’m a #lansdcape and #wildlife #photgrapher focused primarily on the beauty and diversity of #Appalachia, and reside in #Tennessee.

I decided to migrate here to mastodon due to the recent decline in genuine interactions on other sites like Instagram/tik tok, whose algorithms have become king of pushing “template” style videos/AI content rather than photography from small up & coming artists. Excited to connect with new folks!
